Alla Yarosh, mezzo-soprano

Ukrainian-born mezzo-soprano, Alla Yarosh, has known from a young age that communicating the essence of the human condition through song will become her life-long commitment. In November 2021, Ms. Yarosh was presented with a Bachelor of Music in operatic performance from the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia. There, she practiced under the tutelage of vocal lector, Shelli Hulcombe.

Within the walls of the Queensland Conservatorium, Ms. Yarosh was awarded the Elizabeth Muir Postgraduate Prize (2022), the John and Sue Thompson Vocal Accompaniment Scholarship in collaboration with pianist, Samuel Choi (2022), the Linda Edith Allen Award (2021), and the Jim Massie Memorial Prize (2021). Her roles to date in university productions have included Olga Olsen in Weil’s Street Scene (2021), Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen (Val Machin Opera Scenes, 2021), and Ursule in Berlioz’s Beatrice et Benedict (2020). This May, Ms. Yarosh is to take to the Conservatorium Theatre stage as Hippolyta from Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream (Val Machin Opera Scenes, 2022) and, for the final time in September, as the Queen of Fairies from Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe.

In October 2021, she made her solo debut with the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Johannes Fritzsch, performing a selection of songs by Alma Mahler.

Ms. Yarosh is an alumnus of the Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program (2021), with whom she was due to perform the role of Frau Reich in Nicolai’s Die Lustigen Weiber von Windsor in collaboration with Victorian Opera. The season was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

In 2021, Ms. Yarosh also appeared as a soloist with the Brisbane Concert Orchestra in their Heroes and Villains concert under the direction of Matthew Schwartz. She joined Brisbane City Opera as the mezzo-soprano soloist for a concert in support of mental health awareness and education at the Queensland Parliament. Alongside the all-female ensemble, The Seven Sopranos, she too was a part of the 2021 Brisbane Music Festival.
